Young Adult Adoptee Group!



Young Adult Adoptee Group
This event is for older teens and adults (15 years old or older) who would like to discuss adoption-related topics in a safe and open environment. Parents can also attend a separate group simultaneously, led by a licensed therapist (no fee for parents, but please RSVP). Discussions will range in topics from:
    • peer relationships, 
    • launching out of their parents home, 
    • college/career, 
    • and other adoption related issues.
Facilitated by Pam Shepard, LCSW and an adult-adoptee.

This highly engaging workshop, taught by a certified Learning Behavioral Specialist, will offer hands-on, practical information about sensory issues, how to recognize them in your children, and what tools you can use to help them.


  • Learn how to make your own Sensory Kit with items around your home.

  • Discover sensory tools and ideas that help!

  • Take part in an exercise that will show you how it feels to have sensory overload.

  • Meet “Domino” the therapy bunny!


DCFS Training Credits are available for this workshop



Childcare for infants through pre-K is available, and Awana is available for Kindergarten through Grade 5 at Midweek for Kids.

Safe Families Training Opportunities!


Safe Families for Children Presents
Chicago Area Volunteer Training Days!

Prospective Safe Families are invited to attend a live, accelerated Comprehensive Training Session. 

Offered as an alternative to online training, this event is designed to equip you to welcome a child into your home (Host Family) or support a host or placing parent (Family Friend) and move you through the training process efficiently. The live Comprehensive Training Session includes everything you need to become a certified Safe Family Volunteer—all in one place. 
  • Start or submit your application
  • Get fingerprints taken for the background check
  • Complete your training hours
  • Meet like-minded families who will support you
February 18, Chicago, IL
February 25th, Evanston, IL
March 4th, Crystal Lake, IL
March 11th, So. Barrington, IL
March 18th, Naperville, IL
for any of the locations.
The training will be in two parts.  The first two hours will be for all volunteers. The second two hours will be for Host Families.  So, anyone interested in being a Family Friend only needs to stay for the first two hours.  Host Families need to stay for the whole training.

A light breakfast and lunch is included.

Have you ever thought about becoming a foster parent? Join us for an informational meeting where you can come to find answers to your questions!

Many foster parents have said that is was in prayer that they became inspired to open their home to a child in need. Children who have experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, or abandonment need a safe place to heal, to learn, and to grow.  Is God calling you?
