Are you ready to step out onto the water and take a leap of faith? Looking for a way to help the kids and families who are struggling? We challenge you to DO SOMETHING.

Safe Families for Children is a movement fueled by compassion to keep children safe and families intact. We rely upon host families, and a network of support, to open their arms, their hearts, and their homes.

The training will be in two parts.  The first 2 1/2 hours will be for all volunteers. The second 1 1/2  hours will be for Host Families.  So, anyone interested in being a Family Friend only needs to stay for the first part.  Host Families need to stay for the whole training.

 

Doors open at 8:30 AM for those who need to start an application, schedule a home study, start a background check, or ask one-on-one questions.  The training session begins at 9:00 AM sharp!

PRE-SERVICE TRAINING FOR PROSPECTIVE FOSTER AND ADOPTIVE PARENTS (27 hours)

Thursdays, January 14, 2016 through March 10, 2016                                 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The goal of this competency based training is to share essential information about fostering and adopting that will help the participants to develop into a successful foster and/or adoptive family.  It will also help you to learn the knowledge and skills you need to make an informed decision about fostering or adopting and get off to a healthy start.  Please note: you must be referred to this class by an agency.

ADOPTION CERTIFICATION “From Foster Care to Adoption” (9 hours)

Tuesdays, January 12, 19, 29, 2016                                     6:00-10:00p.m.

The purpose of this training is to meet the needs of experienced foster parents who are adopting a child who they are currently fostering. It is a requirement that foster parents take this training prior to the adoption being finalized.

EDUCATIONAL ADVOCACY TRAINING FOR FOSTER PARENTS (6 hours)

The purpose of this class is to provide foster parents the basic information and skills necessary to advocate for and obtain quality special education and developmental services for the children in their care who are between the ages of newborn to 18 years old. Best practice is for this class to be taken prior to receiving a foster placement and it is mandatory to take prior to renewal of your foster care license.

W.I.S.E. Up! Workshops

W.I.S.E. Up! Workshops Holt-Sunny Ridge is pleased to offer two W.I.S.E. Up! Workshops tailored to your child's age group. W.I.S.E. Up is a unique and interactive workshop developed by the Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.).   Who should attend? This Workshop is open to children grades 1-3, ages 6, 7, & 8, and children grades 4-6, ages 9, 10, & 11. The Workshop offers practical tools for adoptive parents and adopted children (adopted both internationally and domestically) to guide them in making choices on how to respond to uncomfortable or personal questions about their adoption. Each workshop also includes a parent workshop and one W.I.S.E. Up! Powerbook.   What Does The Workshop Look Like? The W.I.S.E. Up! Workshop is a two-hour workshop designed to empower children and adults to deal with personal questions and comments related to adoption.   Children and adults break up into separate groups for the Workshop. Through a series of activities, discussions, and role playing, children learn the "W.I.S.E. Up" way to answer personal questions about adoption. During this time, adults attend their own interactive presentation-designed to equip parents with strategies and techniques which best support our adoptive children as they encounter personal questions related to adoption.   The W.I.S.E. Up! Workshop concludes with time for questions and answers, followed by time where children gather with their parent(s) for parent/child discussion on Workshop skills learned.   When? When under-resourced families face personal or financial crises, the children are affected. Today, an alarming number of parents are socially isolated and lack family support, often compounding problems, feelings of desperation, and likelihood of child neglect or abuse and the subsequent need for foster care placement.

Safe Families for Children (SFFC) is dedicated to family support, stabilization, and most importantly, prevention of child abuse. Parents voluntarily place their children in safe, loving homes while other volunteers support the parents.

If you are interested in becoming a Safe Families volunteer, please register for one of the training sessions listed above. You may also register if you are a current volunteer who would like to update your training.

Learn More About Becoming a CASA Volunteer

 

Join CASA for an upcoming information session to learn how you can get involved and make a difference for a child in McHenry County. CASA volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children from ages 0 -21 years old. There is a child out there who needs your voice.
