Foster Parent Classes at Allendale


Thursday, March 16th 6:30 – 8:30 pm Basics of Abuse, Neglect and Dependency Proceedings  in the Juvenile Justice System Kathy Gordon, J.D., Principal Assistant Public Defender of Lake County, will explain the major procedural aspects of child abuse, neglect and dependency hearings in the Juvenile Court System and address questions related to supporting the “best interests” of youth in care. Ms. Gordon began working as Guardian Ad Litem in Lake County via the Public Defender’s Guardian ad Litem Division in 2007 and has spent more than 18 years working for thousands of Illinois children in the juvenile abuse, neglect and dependent system.  She became a certified mediator in 1996 and has volunteered for the Center for Conflict Resolution in Chicago for the last 20 years. 


Thursday, April 20th  6:30 – 8:30 pm Working with Control Sensitive Youth - Reviewing with Focus Daniel Goldberg, Psy.D. and Andie Becker, M.A., Allendale Association Residential Therapists and Trainers, will present a focused review of how the attachment style of the children in our care relates to their behaviors, particularly around issues of control and decision-making.  Gain understanding of the youth’s behaviors, what motivates the connection to peers and adults, and how to aid in changing behaviors.
