Upcoming Group - June 6th Young Adult Adoptee Group This event is for older teens and adults (15 years old or older) who would like to discuss adoption-related topics in a safe and open environment. Parents can also attend a separate group simultaneously, led by a licensed therapist (no fee for parents, but please RSVP). Discussions will range in topics from: peer relationships,  launching out of their parents home,  college/career,  and other adoption related issues. Tween Support Group!

New Tween Group!

We are dedicated to supporting our Holt-Sunny Ridge families for life — through every age and stage. And recently, we’ve heard a lot of you ask for a program especially for your tween-aged kids…  So we are very excited to announce a brand new Tween Adoptee Group at Holt-Sunny Ridge! Starting on December 13, we invite all 11 to 14-year-olds to come together for a fun, interactive time that focuses on building self worth. The group will be led by Carly Schrimpl, LCSW, and will take place from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at our office in Bolingbrook the second Tuesday of each month. While tweens meet, parents can also meet together at our office.  Click here to register for the first Tween Adoptee Group on December 13! Adoption stirs up many thoughts and feelings, things that others cannot fully

understand unless they were in your shoes. Please join us as we bring together a
group of teenagers who have similar adoption stories and talk through both the
joys and struggles of their unique experiences. This group will allow you to interact
with those who “get you.”

Join us for an 8-week journey of self-discovery and healing. Topics will include:

 

• Difficulties of being adopted from a different country

• Dealing with sadness and grief

• Adjusting to a new family and culture

• How to cope with stress

• How your unique story can shape your future

Girls Group at Sunny Ridge

Summer Girls Groups at Sunny Ridge Does your daughter struggle with peer issues? Or seem to have a difficult time talking about adoption? Does she shut down when you try to talk to her? Sunny Ridge Family Center continues our Girl Groups this summer. We still have room for your daughter to join Sunny Ridge for a summer session of Expressions (Girls ages 13-17) beginning June 4. Sessions combine fun and a therapeutic component to assist your daughter in gaining more confidence, managing her feelings in a healthy and appropriate way, developing her social skills, and processing adoption-related issues with others who are experiencing similar circumstances. Group includes team-building exercises, adoptee guest speaker, crafts, and movie clips / discussion time. We offer your daughter a fun, safe, and nurturing group with other girls her age. All group sessions are led by an Pam Shepard, LCSW, Supervisor of Parent Training and Adoption Counseling Services. Groups are for girls who were adopted domestically, internationally, or through foster care. Hurry! Groups limited to 10 girls maximum.
