The Vulnerable Children’s Ministry at Willow Creek invites you to a Pot-Luck Gathering for
adoptive, foster and Safe Families

Sunday, August 18th, 2013

5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Willow Creek Community Church, 67 E. Algonquin Road, So. Barrington, IL

Room F150 (Park in parking lot F and follow signs downstairs to room F150)

 Dinner begins promptly at 5:00.  Please bring a dish to pass.  Beverages are provided.

Topic: The ABC’s of Becoming a Advocate for your Child’s Educational Needs

Your involvement in the education process is critical.  This training session will inform foster parents, adoptive parents, and safe family parents the basic information and skills necessary to advocate for and obtain quality special education and developmental services (including modifications) for the children in their care who are between the ages of three to 18 years old. Come and learn strategies and tips on how to work in partnership with your school district on behalf of the children who are in your care.   Foster parents will be able to obtain continuing education credit hours for attending this class.

Adoption, Foster Care, Safe Families and Orphan Care

 


Join us as we welcome the Gorbatenko family from Willow Creek,
and hear their story of adopting three of their children from Russia.  It’s a story of God’s faithfulness and their test of faith to bring home the children born in their hearts. 
You won’t want to miss their exciting adventure!

We will also be celebrating Compassion Sunday.  If you currently sponsor a child through Compassion International or any other sponsorship program, please bring the picture(s) of your sponsored child(ren) to the meeting.  If you are not currently sponsoring a child, you will have the
opportunity to sponsor one through Compassion.

This month we are excited to have guest speaker Norm Suire, Foster Home Licensing Representative with D.C.F.S. This will be part two of a series of discussions on Bridging the Gap with Biological/Placing Parents. This is essential information to think about if you are interested in building a relationship with the parents of the children whom you are providing care, whether through adoption, foster care or Safe Families.
We hope you will come and join in the conversation as the Vulnerable Children’s Ministry seeks to support you in the important work that you are doing.
DCFS credit hours will be awarded for all licensed foster parents who attend this meeting.
Dinner begins promptly at 5:00. Fried chicken and beverages will be provided by our wonderful Hospitality Team. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.
